Spiritual Footprint

My spiritual footprint is a play on having a digital footprint. The idea of a digital footprint is that each of us is developing, whether we like it or not, a footprint that reflects our character in the digital domain. This module will encourage students to consider whether their ‘spiritual (digital) footprint’ is one which is glorifying to God.

Introduction to the concept of a digital footprint

Here is an example of how someone’s digital footprint got them fired… CLICK LINK

Tweeting in frustration…

The consequences of a minute error in judgement:

One small moment of frustration. Read this article.
Consider for a moment the digital footprint that Paul Chambers has created for himself via this seemingly small error in judgement.
Every time someone searches him for the rest of his life, they will know about this. Every potential employer…
Why don’t you search him and see what you find?

The Bible meets Facebook! (Using a Moodle forum)

Staff Warning – unfortunately the default image selection tool on ‘Fakebook’ is to search google for images based upon the name that you put in. While it claims to use ‘google safe search’ settings, we have had a couple of unfortunate incidents where unhelpful images have been automatically selected. There is a disclaimer on the site to this effect, but you need to test this for yourself and consider carefully your use of this feature. I have made a request of the creator of Fakebook@russeltarr to change the default selection. You may also like to add your voice – as I think this is a great tool for educators, but might need some improvements.

You are to create, and share a fake facebook page, for a biblical character of your choice. Obviously, that character should demonstrate a clear understanding of the appropriate way to use digital media.

You should:

  1. Investigate a biblical character of your choice. (There are some links below to get you started.)
  2. Go here: http://www.classtools.net/fb/home/page to create your ‘fakebook’ page.
  3. Create a profile for your character with:
    1. Personal information
    2. At least 4 ‘friends’
    3. At least 5 ‘posts’ with at least 2 ‘replies’
    4. Ensure you save as you go (save button is at the right of the screen)
    5. When you finish – copy the embed code
  4. Reply to this forum post
  5. Click the html button (it is the button that looks like this <> when you are writing your reply)
  6. Paste the embed code in here
  7. Post your reply
